Who else's Ionic Breeze smell?

Whoever has had experience with air purifiers...particularly those that purify using ion technology (Ionic Breeze, others) will notice that these particular purifiers emit a scent when used. I recently had the chance to experiment with a 3000 sq ft ionic purifier and when fully electrified, the smell was absolutely horrific and overpowering; metallic and awful. Could this be ozone? Thoughts?
